Draft Cycle Network SPD

The District Council is consulting on a draft Cycle Network Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).  The new SPD will, once adopted by the Council, replace the ‘South Derbyshire Cycling Strategy’ Supplementary Planning Guidance (2001).

The main purpose of the SPD is to identify an aspirational network of routes, both on and off highway, as a basis for negotiating developer contributions toward their implementation.  Off-highway links are to be designed to accommodate a range of users and abilities including cyclists, walkers and horse riders, where practical.  On highway routes can only be brought into being on the basis of roads being made sufficiently safe and well maintained for that purpose.

Reference copies of the consultation document and paper copies of the questionnaire can be found at the following locations (during opening hours) from 3 May 2024.

  • South Derbyshire District Council, Civic Offices, Civic Way, Swadlincote DE11 0AH.
  • All South Derbyshire libraries and the following libraries outside of the District: Burton, Littleover-Blagreaves, Mickleover, Alvaston, Chellaston and Sinfin.
