Art festivals

Access to arts, culture and heritage is easy to come by in South Derbyshire thanks to two high profile festivals.

The Melbourne Festival of Creative and Performing Arts, held in September each year, is eagerly awaited by locals and visitors from afar. The Art and Architecture Trail sees professional artists hosted in private houses, many of historical significance, which are never open to the public. An eclectic mix of music, theatre and comedy is also on offer.

Also well worth a visit is the Willington Arts Festival, which takes place in May. The Arts Trail is a central element of the festival, providing an informal atmosphere for artists to showcase their work and for visitors to learn about the techniques on show. A series of workshops are also held to allow visitors to get hands on.

Details of other art events can be found on the Artsderbyshire website.
