Grass cutting
Grass is cut between March and October on all Council owned land.
This includes:
- highway verges (as an agent for Derbyshire County Council)
- memorial gardens and parks
- public open spaces
- town centres
This ensures the safe use of South Derbyshire’s roads, pavements and parks.
The Council sets out a schedule of when and where areas are cut. This is subject to regular change due to weather and ground conditions.
As a guide, areas outside 30mph signs are cut approximately three times per year, traffic sight lines are cut four times per year and areas within 30mph speed limits are cut approximately 16 times a year.
The Council does not cut privately-owned grass or properties/estates owned by other bodies or organisations.
A list of Frequently Asked Questions (pdf, 118kb) has been created to answer any queries you may have around grass cutting.
