Businesses showcase hundreds of vacancies at jobs fair

Swadlincote Jobs Fair Swadlincote Jobs Fair

Swadlincote’s annual jobs and skills fair will be offering hundreds of job opportunities thanks to more than 60 employers already signed up to take part.

Employers including The Army Reserve, Keystone Group and UPS have already registered to showcase the variety of roles available to those out of work or looking for a new position, whilst local organisations will be on hand to assist those looking to improve their employability through training or volunteering.

The event will be held at Green Bank Leisure Centre in Civic Way and will give potential employees the chance to ‘have a go’ at a new skill thanks to Burton and South Derbyshire College, which is offering interactive hands-on experiences including catering, engineering, performing arts and much more.

The aim of the fair is to give people the opportunity to find employment, develop their skills, build confidence and gain an understanding of what careers are available locally.

Organised by the South Derbyshire Partnership, the event is being delivered by Swadlincote Jobcentre in partnership with South Derbyshire District Council, Burton and South Derbyshire College, South Derbyshire CVS and Derbyshire County Council, and follows on from the success of last year’s fair.

There will be a number of short workshops on the day including ‘What are employers looking for at an interview?’; ‘Thinking of Starting a Business? Taster’; ‘Apprenticeships are not just for young people’ and more.

Anyone wishing to find out more about these can call 01283 595791 or, to book a place, visit Eventbrite and search for ‘Swadlincote Jobs & Skills Fair.’

Mike Roylance, Economic Development Manager at South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“Over the years the jobs fair has attracted thousands of people and we’re sure this year will prove to be as popular as ever.

“South Derbyshire has extremely low levels of unemployment, but we’re always looking at ways to boost the local economy even further.

“The ‘have a go’ skills sessions were particularly popular last year and we’ll again be welcoming local schoolchildren keen to get involved.”

The Swadlincote Jobs and Skills Fair takes place between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday, April 6, 2017, is free to attend and open to all.

Any business or organisation interested in running a ‘have a go’ activity or exhibiting on the day can book by visiting www.eventbrite.co.uk and searching for ‘Swadlincote Jobs & Skills Fair’.

They are invited to promote current job and apprenticeship vacancies, or to raise awareness of career opportunities.

There is no charge to exhibit and companies are encouraged to bring examples of their products or services.
