Where are the cemeteries and churchyards in South Derbyshire?

Cemeteries

We manage six cemeteries within South Derbyshire:

  • Church Gresley Cemetery
  • Newhall Cemetery & St John’s Churchyard
  • Marston on Dove Cemetery
  • Findern Cemetery
  • Etwall Cemetery
  • Aston on Trent Cemetery, Moor Lane

Staff in our Parks & Green Spaces Team are responsible for the day to day management of our cemeteries and are based in the Civic Offices, Swadlincote.

All cemetery grounds are open every day including bank holidays.

Churchyards

We are also responsible for the grounds maintenance of 5 closed churchyards within South Derbyshire. These are at:

  • All Saints Church, Aston on Trent
  • St Wilfrid’s Church, Barrow on Trent
  • All Saints Church, Findern
  • St Michael’s Church, Willington
  • St Stephen’s Church, Woodville

Other burial facilities in South Derbyshire

There are other cemeteries and burial grounds within the district which are managed by their respective Parish Councils and/or local church.  Information on these can be obtained by contacting the relevant body.

Vehicles within cemeteries

Vehicles are only permitted within Church Gresley Cemetery.  No motor vehicles are allowed within any of our other cemeteries.

Please do not drive or park on the grass.

Vehicular access may be restricted whilst a funeral is taking place.

Memorials within cemeteries

The following procedures apply to memorials:

  • memorial regulations are provided with grave deeds following each burial. Further copies are available on request.
  • memorials must be fitted by a BRAMM/NAMM approved memorial mason
  • memorials remain the responsibility of the registered deed holder
  • the District Council reserves the right to remove unauthorised memorials and items restricted in any site regulations

Christmas wreaths

Christmas wreaths and memorabilia are removed from the grounds from the 1st Monday in February each year.

All  fees for Grant of Rights and burials are treble for non-residents of South Derbyshire.

All payments not being covered by your funeral director can be made by cheque or credit/debit card at our offices or by telephoning 01283 595782.
