Council marks Covid Day of Reflection 2025

Covid Day of Reflection 2025 Covid Day of Reflection 2025

On Sunday 9th March, the Council will be marking five years since the Covid pandemic with two walks for the community.

As part of the UK’s national Covid Day of Reflection 2025, walks are taking place at:

  • 11:45am at the Covid Memorial Bench, Church Gresley Cemetery to walk to the Maurice Lea Memorial Park. Chair of the Council, Councillor Sean Bambrick and the Town Crier will be joining the community for this walk. There will be an opportunity to lay flowers at the end of the walk at the park bandstand (please ensure flowers are not wrapped in plastic packaging).

The walks are an opportunity for people to come together to remember those who lost their lives since the pandemic began and to honour the tireless work and acts of kindness shown during this unprecedented time.

Councillor Stephen Taylor, Chair of the Environmental and Development Services Committee commented, “Walking during the pandemic was a way we could all help our physical and mental health during this very difficult time. I think these walks are a fitting way for us to come together, chat to people and have an opportunity to remember those we lost and also those who worked so hard to keep our vital services running.”

The UK Commission on Covid Commemoration was established to find appropriate ways to remember those who lost their lives during the pandemic, and to explore how we mark this period of our history. The Commission consulted with those most impacted by the pandemic, including representatives from bereaved family organisations and a recommendation was made to have an annual UK-wide day of reflection.
