Melbourne by-election

Melbourne Market Place Melbourne Market Place

Alongside the elections on 2 May for an East Midlands Combined County Authority Mayor (EMCCAM) and the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), there will be a by-election in the South Derbyshire ward of Melbourne for a District Councillor.

Anyone currently on the electoral register within the Melbourne District Ward can vote at this by-election (apart from those registered as Overseas Electors who are only entitled to vote at Parliamentary Elections).

A key deadline to be aware of is the deadline for receipt of new electoral registration applications that would enable the person to vote on 2nd May 2024 - it is midnight on Tuesday, 16 April 2024. Additionally, for those wishing to vote by post, the deadline for new postal vote applications is Wednesday, 17 April at 5pm.

Residents who are not currently on the electoral register are encouraged to visit www.gov.uk/registertovote to complete an application before the deadline.

In addition to the poll cards for PCC and EMCCAM elections, separate poll cards have been issued for the Melbourne by-election. These detail both the elector number and the polling station. The first three letters denote the Polling District and that corresponds to the polling stations as follows:

MLA - Scouts & Guides HQ, Pack Horse Road, DE73 8BZ

MLB - Melbourne Assembly Rooms, High Street, DE73 8GF

MLC - Stanton-by-Bridge Village Hall, Ingleby Road, DE73 7HU

The following websites run by the Democracy Club in association with the Electoral Commission offer a simple postcode lookup for details about elections in the area, who to vote for, and where to vote.
