New artwork for Swadlincote Woodlands
A storage container at Swadlincote Woodlands has been sensationally transformed into a beautiful graffiti-style piece of art.
The storage container near the main entrance looked very tired and a decision was made to make it and the general area more welcoming for visitors. A wildlife theme was chosen to transform the container and create an appealing entrance and focal point.
With the help of aerosol artist Wing who is a part of the Leicester-based Graffwerk collective, the container’s spectacular transformation was completed over a three-week period.
The design is based on the features of Swadlincote Woodlands and reflects the nature of the site by incorporating a woodland scene, meadow and wildlife around the ponds.
The unique artwork and transformation have already received lots of great feedback by local passers-by.
Upon completing the container, artist Wing, said: “It was a fun project to do as it was in such an inspiring location surrounded by nature, which I have not worked in before.
“There was a lot of positive interest in the artwork and the wildlife theme, so I think the people of South Derbyshire are really going to enjoy it.”
South Derbyshire District Council’s leader, Councillor Robert Pearson, added: “The finished artwork looks fantastic and is an amazing transformation. I would like to thank the artist, Graffwerk and all involved in creating such a fitting tribute to the beautiful surroundings of Swadlincote Woodlands.
“It’s been getting some great feedback and If you have not visited, I would encourage you to go and take a look for yourself.”
Graffwerk is a multifaceted arts project team focused on aerosol art which aims to redefine visual landscape of cities and other public areas through the use of street art.
