Elections 2023: Abandonment of Hilton Poll
Following information received by the Council’s Returning Officer at the Count on Friday 5 May 2023, the poll for the Ward of Hilton was abandoned.
The law provides that where proof of death of a candidate is delivered to the Returning Officer after polls have opened, but before the declaration of result, the poll must be abandoned, and a new election must be held for that ward.
A new date for poll will be selected, this must fall within 35 working days of the day of the original poll.
New nominations may be made, but candidates already validly nominated at the original poll do not have to be nominated a second time.
Candidates validly nominated prior to the abandonment of poll may not withdraw, as their period for withdrawal has expired.
Further details will follow once a new date for poll has been fixed.
