A new community festival of live music is heading to Swadlincote town centre on Saturday, 26 August.

Swad Live will take place from 2pm-5pm on The Delph and it aims to provide an exciting springboard for local talent. There are lots of dance schools, bands, recording studios, singing groups and performers of all ages in and around Swadlincote - this organisation aims to provide an opportunity for them to showcase their talents, with this first free-to-attend event being the launch for Swad Live.

A main stage will host performances from a range of talented groups and individuals, including Tribal Vibes and their rhythmic djembe drums, the acoustics of Charlie Rogers, the Sing4Health choir, Stage Screen, Tom Clamp, Ruth Chomic and the Friends of Merlin mystical rock band!

There will be plenty of other things to do on the day, including glitter tattoos, face painting, popcorn, circus skills, candy floss and much more – making this a great afternoon of family entertainment not to miss!

Swad Live organisers, South Derbyshire CVS, have been busy working behind the scenes with partners, local organisations and individuals to put together this inaugural event and project. The longer-term ambition is to form a community performing arts group in Swadlincote and for the event to become an established annual festival.

Hollie Benton the CEO at South Derbyshire CVS said: “Swad Live is a tremendous opportunity for performing arts in the area to come together and have a platform to share their talents. It will give the town centre a boost and show people from outside of the area what a vibrant community Swadlincote is. This stand alone organisation will bring the community together in the format of a variety of events and we look forward to supporting those keen to be involved to plan and execute these fantastic performing arts offerings.”

Although there are acts confirmed for the August event, Swad Live is looking for other local performing artists to come forward and get involved in the project in the future.
