Rosliston Forestry Centre’s Environmental Education Project have launched its popular summer Wildlife Watch activities programme for 2022.

At these sessions, youngsters aged from 4 to 12, who are curious about the environment or are just looking for some outdoor summer holiday fun can take part in a wide variety of interactive wildlife and environmental activities.

The first event of the Wildlife Watch Summer 2022 programme will take place on Tuesday, 26 July. At the ‘Plastic Fantastic’ session families can bring and transform their single use plastic waste into attractive and useful items.

On Friday, 29 July there will be a chance for young ones to stay up a bit later and learn about the creatures that come out at night at the annual ‘Nightwatch’ event. This activity is designed for adults as well as kids and features walks, talks and displays about bats, badgers, moths and everything nocturnal.

The above events are surrounded by a wide range of other activities - from a guided ‘Minibeast Safari’ to pond dipping, to the popular ‘Grab it for your Rabbit’ session, where visitors can take freshly cut grass and plants from the wildflower meadow for their pets to eat at home.

All the summer activities take place at the Rosliston Forestry Centre and apart from the free ‘Grab it for your Rabbit’ session, activities cost between £2.50 - £5 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all sessions.

Councillor Stephen Taylor, Chair of the Council’s Environment and Development Service Committee said: “We are lucky to have such a fantastic programme of activities available over the summer holidays where children can get outdoors, enjoy themselves and learn about wildlife and their local environment at the same time.

“The Wild Watch events at Rosliston have always proven to be very popular in the past and I’m positive it will be again over the upcoming months.”
