First Music in the Park of 2022
South Derbyshire District Council’s first Music in the Park event of 2022 will take place this Wednesday (27 July) at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley.
The event will run from 2-4 pm and is the first of four opportunities for people to enjoy live entertainment from the park’s bandstand over the summer.
On Wednesday the music will be provided by Rich Mix - a trio of multi-instrumentalists featuring drums, keyboards, trombone, guitar, vocals, accordian, mandolin, trumpet and whistles! There will also be an amazing bubble performer to provide further family friendly entertainment.
The next event will run over the same time will be on Sunday 31 July and will welcome back the Uttoxeter Town Brass Band performing music from around the UK.
The final Music in The Park event is on Wednesday, 10 August where the Caribbean Steel Band will be creating a party atmosphere with upbeat calypso, salsa, rumba, reggae, covering many well-known songs! It is also Wacky Wednesday at the park, so there will be plenty for the kids to enjoy with the play, adventure and sports mobile available 1-4pm
That is not the end of live entertainment at Maurice Lea, as the free music programme continues on Sunday 14 August where the Proms in the Park event will return.
Here local singer Sophie Dangerfield will continue the Council’s Jubilee celebrations with vintage favourites and songs from the eras, followed by Newhall Brass Band with their traditional prom favourites.
The Proms in the Park event will run from 2pm – 6pm. All the events are free-to-attend.

“The Wednesday events are more targeted at families with younger children, whilst the Sunday events are slightly more traditional. With this combination and the quality musical line-ups assembled there really is something for everybody to enjoy.
“I’m sure lots of families will be bringing chairs, rugs and picnics to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of live outdoor music.”
