First Music in the Park event

Music in the Park crowd Music in the Park crowd

South Derbyshire District Council’s first Music in the Park event of 2022 took place (Wednesday, 27 July) at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley.

The popular free event was the first of four opportunities for people to enjoy live entertainment from the park’s bandstand over the summer.

On Wednesday the live music was provided by Rich Mix - a trio of multi-instrumentalists featuring drums, keyboards, trombone, guitar, vocals, accordian, mandolin, trumpet and whistles. There was also an amazing bubble performer providing family friendly entertainment.

The rain held off and there was a great turnout.

The next event will be on Sunday 31 July (2-4pm) and welcomes back the Uttoxeter Town Brass Band performing music from around the UK.

The final Music in The Park event is on Wednesday, 10 August where the Caribbean Steel Band will be creating a party atmosphere with upbeat calypso, salsa, rumba, reggae, covering many well-known songs! It is also Wacky Wednesday at the park, so there will be plenty for the kids to enjoy with the play, adventure and sports mobile available 1-4pm

That is not the end of live entertainment at Maurice Lea, as the free music events programme continues on Sunday 14 August where the Proms in the Park event will return.
