Rosliston’s Saplings sessions are back
The popular Saplings pre-school experience sessions are back for families to enjoy at Rosliston Forestry Centre this autumn.
Starting on Wednesday, 7 September, the Environmental Education Project team at the Forestry Centre will be delivering one-hour sessions which let children aged between one and four get mucky, learn about wildlife and take part in fun interactive outdoor activities.
A variety of immersive activities are being planned for our ‘Secret Sapling’ site at the centre, which sits in the National Forest. The activities available will include sound experiments, water play, bug hunts, woodland nature detective games and there will even be a mud kitchen!
During these outdoor sessions children will get to learn, play and create though sensory activities all inspired by nature. They will be introduced to the changing seasons and the site’s local wildlife, as well as foraging and making things to take home.
Councillor Stephen Taylor, Chair of the Council’s Environment and Development Service Committee said: “I am pleased we are putting the Saplings outdoor experience sessions on again this autumn.
“It’s a great opportunity for pre-school children to learn valuable lessons about nature and the natural environment in a fun way – all outdoors in the glorious Rosliston Forestry Centre setting.”
The Saplings sessions all take place between 10:30am and 11:30am each Wednesday - with the first half term sessions running weekly until the 19 October.
Each session costs £6.00 per child with no charge for an accompanying adult. These are popular sessions, so booking in advance is required. A discounted parking rate is available for participants and discounts are available for block bookings.
For more information about the sessions please visit Rosliston Forestry Centre or you can book by contacting the Environmental Education team on: 01283 535039, or by email at rosliston@southderbyshire.gov.uk.
