Cadley Park takes shape

The work to create Cadley Park - Swadlincote’s new urban park is taking shape, with the plans to create a vibrant green space in South Derbyshire on track.

Works to transform the former Cadley Colliery site off William Nadin Way into an urban park facility started in back in May and the area has now changed considerably - as it’s well on the way to becoming a vibrant new area where people can enjoy the outdoors by walking through a new meadow and a network of footpaths and cycle tracks.

When completed, Cadley Park will complement Swadlincote’s existing network of green spaces and provide quality facilities for residents to enjoy for years to come.

As the works are now over a few months in, the size and scale of the new park and its pathways and tracks are becoming a visible reality.

Cllr Paul Dunn, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council said: “After visiting the site and getting a comprehensive update from the contractors it’s pleasing that the work is looking great, progressing well and all on track for a successful completion.

“It’s been brilliant to be involved at the start of this project and be able to see first-hand the transformation so far. As you can now really start to visualise what a great space Cadley Park will be for residents to use and enjoy.”

Cadley Park’s creation is the result of a £1 million green space investment and is being funded by 106 monies and South Derbyshire District Council, alongside a Sport England grant for the pump track - with support from British Cycling. The park is on track to be completed this winter.

A short video of the site visit is avilable to view, to help give a flavour of what the site is currently like - Cadley Park progress. Below is a visual of the finished urban park.
