Council acquires more affordable homes
Seven more affordable new homes are to be handed over to South Derbyshire District Council as it advances its policy of acquiring new housing stock – one of only a few local authorities in the country to be doing so.
The new homes are off Acresford Road in Overseal, and will be handed over by developers Cameron Homes – five at the end of March and the remaining two in April
There will be two two-bedroom houses, three three-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom bungalows.
One of the features of the new homes will be an integrated ‘misting system’, which is a technology that is proving very effective in fire safety protection. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has partly paid for the systems.
Councillor Gordon Rhind, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee said: “We are firmly committed to making available affordable homes and re-housing people living in unacceptable conditions. We also hope our policy will help enable people who cannot afford to get on the housing ladder to remain living within their communities.”
