Support urged for Love Parks Week
The key messages of this year’s Love Parks Week will be supported by South Derbyshire District Council as it looks to encourage local people to protect, respect and love the area’s parks and green spaces.
This year those messages take on added importance following the greatly increased usage of parks during the Pandemic. Around 9 in 10 people surveyed by Natural England in May 2020 agreed that natural spaces are good for mental health and wellbeing, and yet, those green spaces have been under immense pressure, with local authorities reporting they collected, on average, an extra 57 tonnes of litter during the first lockdown alone.
The Council, along with Love Parks Week organisers, Keep Britain Tidy, will be encouraging local residents to…
Protect – with a call to government to address urgent issues affecting our green spaces, including funding, access, climate change and biodiversity.
Respect – by observing a simple code to explain how to respect green spaces
Love – By visiting parks either for organised activities or for leisure activity with family or on your own.
A wide range of different activities will be taking part in Council Parks during the week, including;
