Two parks achieve Green Flag status
The Green Flag Award scheme aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways. Awards are presented on an annual basis
Maurice Lea Memorial Park in Church Gresley, and Eureka Park in Swadlincote, are among 2,000 green spaces across the country to get the international quality mark.
Councillor Dan Pegg, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council's Housing and Community Services Committee, said: “In South Derbyshire we place great importance on providing high quality parks that residents enjoy visiting. We are delighted to see our efforts recognized with these two Green Flag awards which are testament to the dedication and hard work of staff and volunteers in maintaining such high standards this year, despite massively increased visitor numbers.
“This year it has been more important than ever to have inviting green spaces on our doorsteps. The provision of great outdoor leisure space across the whole District will continue to be a high priority for the Council.”
