New recycling calendars dropping on doormats

New recycling calendars are dropping on the doormats of households throughout South Derbyshire.

Residents are urged to put the handy reference guide on their fridge, noticeboard or other easily accessible location.

The calendar provides details of bin collection dates, including Christmas, New Year and bank holidays, over the next 12 months.

It also highlights in which bins materials such as wrapping paper, greeting cards, glass jars, plastic bottles, food cartons and other household items should be disposed of.

Cllr Andy MacPherson, Chairman of Environmental and Development Services at South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“We understand how important recycling – and minimising the amount of waste being sent to landfill - is to residents.

“Our aim is to provide all of the tools and information required to ensure every item thrown away goes into the correct bin.

“49% of waste was recycled last year. By following the information set out in this calendar, residents can help to make South Derbyshire an even greener District.”

Residents are asked to ensure they leave their bins out by 6am on collection days.

Bin collection dates can also be viewed by visiting the recycling pages or using the address search at www.southderbyshire.gov.uk.
