Market merriment set to arrive in Swadlincote

smallbiz smallbiz

An assortment of gifts and crafts, as well as mouth-watering food, will be available at the popular Christmas Market in Swadlincote.

Traders are pulling out all of the stops to ensure fridges and Christmas stockings are filled to the brim over the festive period.

Stalls will be trading on The Delph Market Square between 10am and 6pm on Saturday, December 1 offering homemade delights, wine, chocolates, prosecco, cakes, pies, knitted gifts and much more besides.

Visitors can shop until they pop thanks to a hog roast, crêpes, hot and cold refreshments and mulled wine. There is no danger of the little ones being bored, with fairground rides, craft activities and free face painting all on offer.

To add to the special atmosphere, shoppers will be treated to festive performances from the Back Numbers Barbershop Quartet, songwriter and musician Annabelle Bartram as well as classics from singer Jenny Quinn.

Cllr Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council said:

“There is no better way of getting into the festive spirit than soaking up the atmosphere created at the Christmas Market.

“The market – as well as the free parking in the town – is always a major draw and helps to complement the retailers, giving shoppers a great choice.”

The Christmas Market ties into Small Business Saturday, where the successes of small, independent businesses are celebrated.

As part of this, visitors can take part in a Snowflake Hunt – and potentially win a Christmas hamper - by collecting a spotter form from Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre in West Street and finding the Snowflakes in shops around the town centre.

Shops and businesses will also be offering shoppers the chance to take part in the #SwadOffers Christmas Voucher Prize Draw to collect stickers from participating stores when they make a purchase. Once they have collected four stickers they can enter the prize draw.

Both initiatives run from Saturday, December 1 to Monday, December 17.

Look out for more #SwadOffers and events in the town centre on the Swadlincote Town Team and Swadlincote Markets Facebook pages.
