Chairman raises thousands for chosen charity
The Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council has handed over a cheque for £6,212 to his chosen charity Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
The charity flies two regional air ambulances, across the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and provides a rapid response to trauma and medical emergencies.
Kate Sawyer, Volunteering Administration Officer said:
“We are very grateful for the funds that have been raised for the charity. Each mission costs around £1,700.
“Every life saved is a victory for us, and we are forever grateful for all the donations that help keep this important service flying.
“We’d like to thank the support of our wonderful donors, supporters and volunteers, whose generosity over the years has been fantastic. We rely entirely on donations to raise the £1,700 we need for each rescue mission.
“Your support will help keep us flying.”
Cllr Michael Stanton has chosen to support the charity for the second successive year. He said:
“We are delighted to have raised more than £6,000 during the past year, for such a fantastic cause. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible.
“I’d like to give special thanks to the Gresley Male Voice Choir. Their music beautifully raised the roof of Grade II listed building St George’s Church, Ticknall during a charity concert earlier this year.
“A concert involving musicians of the past, present and future at Foremarke Hall, Repton’s prep school, raised more than £2,000 for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
“I’m keen to raise the bar this year and exceed the amount of funds we have raised.”
Cllr Stanton met volunteer for the charity John Burney in the Chairman’s suite at the Civic Offices to do the honours and collect the cheque.
