Indulge in a weekend of sweet treats and fascinating finds

A celebration of unique crafts and cuisines is set to make its return to Swadlincote – the market town of The National Forest.

Shoppers can enjoy beautifully made creative goodies, as well as local produce such as cheese and pies, or indulge in treats like Greek and Indian street food, inspirational gifts and much more.

The family-friendly free Swadlincote Food, Drink & Makers Fair takes place on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1, between 9am and 6pm on The Delph Market Square, South Derbyshire.

Visitors will be entertained by singer Paul Ace on Friday afternoon with a mix of vintage ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s classics and swing music.

On Saturday afternoon singer/songwriter and musician Annabelle Bartram will be performing a range of covers and original tracks. She has been a hot success since winning Best Original Song in the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards last year for her song "Love is a Deadly Thing".

Youngsters will also be kept entertained with an array of free creative arts and crafts activities by Alpine Arty Attic, alongside face painting. There will also be a Ferris wheel attraction throughout the weekend for those seeking a buzz of excitement between shopping, eating and drinking.

Gail Archer, South Derbyshire’s Tourist Information Manager said:

“Come along and sample the cuisines on offer – you’re sure to be spoilt for choice! There will be a whole host of arts, crafts and vintage stalls, as well as must-try food and drink. Swadlincote is the place to be so we look forward to welcoming you all.”

Those who are coming from beyond the town will be able to enjoy Swadlincote’s free parking as always.

Cllr Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“The Swadlincote Food, Drink & Makers Fair will transform the town into a hive of activity; there will be something for all of the family. 

“The two-day festival will be filled with lots of beautiful crafts, delicious food, sweet treats and eye-catching gifts. Supporting local businesses is a key aim of the Council and we hope people will come along and show their backing too.”
