Drop in session to shine the spotlight on Universal Credit

Residents in South Derbyshire are being invited to a free drop-in session to get advice and support on Universal Credit.

Universal Credit will see six working age benefits (Housing Benefit, Income Support, Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance) replaced with a single monthly payment.

Members of the public are invited to learn more about the changes and the opportunities available to improve their skills and knowledge at Oakland Village, in Hall Farm Road, Swadlincote on Wednesday, September 26.

Experts will be on hand to offer guidance on what it all means for housing benefits and Council Tax as well as ways to manage money.

There will also be information about training courses to improve your IT skills, volunteering opportunities to build and develop experience to help you into work, help seeking employment and support with childcare.

Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, which is running the event in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions and Trident Reach, said:

“This session offers a great opportunity to help prepare people for Universal Credit, which is being rolled out in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas from November.

“As well as expert tips, the event will also enable individuals to find out about opportunities that could help to increase their employability prospects.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the drop in session, being held between 11am and 1.30pm.
