Become a global hero!
As part of World Cleanup Day, #SwadlincoteHeroes will be joining millions of people around the globe in the biggest civic action in human history to clean up our world.
Residents interested in taking part are being encouraged to grab a pair of gloves and a litter picker and meet in Swadlincote town centre on Saturday, September 15 between 10am and 12pm. Those interested are being urged to register from 9.30am.
Proactive pickers are urged to register as a #SwadlincoteHero on the Swadlincote Town Team Facebook page in the Swadlincote Cleanup event or call the Economic Development team on 01283 595791. Youngsters under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council said:
“Together we can make a difference. This is a brilliant initiative to unite the community and help keep our District a better place to live, work and visit.
“Earlier this year, the #SwadlincoteHeroes initiative invited the local community and businesses to grab a pair of gloves and a litter picker, which saw 57 bags of rubbish collected! I hope that we can make a difference and would like to thank those in advance for taking part.”
#WorldCleanupDay is designed to harness the power of everyday people to achieve incredible things by joining together. Its beauty lies in cooperation and collaboration: including all levels of society - from citizens, to business, to government.
