Food (and drink) heaven

Eat and drink Eat and drink

There’s a tasty weekend coming up in Swadlincote next month (October) when the International Food and Drink Festival returns for a third successive year.

Visitors will be able to select from a menu of delights, with food and drink traders from around the world as well as from the local area taking part, many offering chances to taste their produce.

Top chefs will be demonstrating their skills and passing on handy culinary tips. They include ‘The Wild Chef’, Ralph Skripek, from the Butler’s Pantry in Mickleover who will be demonstrating seasonal game dishes on the Sunday.

A Spot the Dish Trail will be found around the town centre, with shops and businesses displaying pictures of dishes and where they are from. The trail can be downloaded from the Swadlincote Town Team on Facebook or a free spotter form can be picked up from Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum. Completed forms returned by 4pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 will be entered into a prize draw.

Adding an extra course to the enjoyment will be international arts, crafts, clothing and gifts stalls, a continental bar and live entertainment, including local band The Surfin’ Llamas.

Cllr Bob Wheeler, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council said:

“The International Food and Drink Festival provides free entertainment, with free entry and free parking. It really does offer a great way to make some delicious discoveries and give your taste buds a treat.”

The festival takes place in Swadlincote town centre, DE11 9DG, on Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 10am to 6pm on the Friday and Saturday and finishing at 5pm on the Sunday. The Entertainment Programme is available here. (pdf, 389kb)
