Fun-packed half term for the youngsters

If you’re stuck for something to keep your family entertained this half-term, fear not - South Derbyshire has a whole range of events to keep everyone happy.

Here’s a round-up to ensure your little ones get their fair dose of excitement during the break.

Wildlife Watch family activities on trees, trees, trees!

Tuesday 30 May 2017, 2pm to 3.30pm at Rosliston Forestry Centre.

Come to meet some of the many different trees found at Rosliston Forestry Centre with the Environmental Education team. Learn how to identify them and discover their many uses, myths and legends associated with them. Meet at the classroom any time between 2pm and 3pm. Admission is £2.50 per group and the event is suitable for children aged four to 12.

Free youth bowls session

Thursday 1 June 2017, 4pm to 6pm at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley.

A fun session giving people the chance to have a go at crown bowls and learning how to play the game. Refreshments will be provided for willing players. Meet by the bowling green.

‘You Shall Go To The Ball’ by Fancy Entertainment

Friday 2 June 2017, showings at 11am, 1pm and 3pm at The Glade at Rosliston Forestry Centre.

This story is set after the original fairytale, with Cinderella and her Prince teaching the Ugly Sisters how to behave more like princesses and princes in time for their wedding ball.  Expect lots of fun, comedy and plenty of interaction. Tickets cost £5, with under-2s free, and can be purchased from Rosliston Forestry Centre.

Booking essential as numbers are limited. Each show lasts approximately 40 minutes and gates are open 15 minutes before each one.

Free Treemendous Trees

Friday 2 June 2017, 11am to 1pm at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley.

Join in a number of free tree-related activities, such as following a map around our Xplorer Tree Trail and seeing if you can answer the questions about trees. There will also be craft activities, including cookie tree art and storytelling in the bandstand.
