Chance to be part of the carnival fun
A Caribbean carnival dance class at South Derbyshire’s Festival of Leisure this weekend will give everyone a chance to take part in a first of its kind.
One of the attractions is a 'Carnival Creatures' themed parade featuring spectacular carnival costumes and performers. Organiser East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network wants local people to join in and really make it a parade to remember.
Dance artist De-Napoli Clarke will be leading a Caribbean Carnival Dance Class at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, in Church Gresley, on Sunday 25 June 2017 at 2.30pm, half an hour before the parade sets off. Local dance groups, community groups and individuals will all be welcome to join in.
Never done before, it promises to be great fun and once people have learned the routine they can join in with the carnival parade under the direction of De-Napoli himself.
Anyone interested in taking part is urged to contact Tour Manager, Tara Lopez, to register their interest and to be kept up to date with all the latest information on timings, email: emccan.tara@aol.co.uk or tel: 07917 097178.
The Festival of Leisure, supported by Touch FM, is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, from 12.30pm to 5pm each day. Entry is completely free of charge.
A packed programme will see main arena performances including the Spectacular Knights of the Crusades, Stunt Riders Live Tour, local dancing talent and dog agility shows.
There will also be fairground rides, a craft marquee, a Made in the National Forest marquee, live music from Touch FM, children’s entertainment, Bill Bailey’s Jazz Band, the Tribal Vibes and Taiko West Drumming Marquee, People Express marquee and lots more.
