Step back in time with the traditional Swadlincote Victorian Christmas Market

Step back in time and enjoy a fun traditional Victorian Christmas Market and Carols Evening in the heart of Swadlincote town centre.

The Dickensian themed market will be bursting with gift ideas, ranging from jewellery and candles to arts, crafts and homeware.

Mouth-watering food and drink include a hog roast, warm mince pies, jumbo pigs in blankets and free tea and coffee.

The extravaganza takes place from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on Friday, December 15 and is set to fill the market square with the colours, sounds and aromas of Christmas.

It will follow on from the Mega Market, being held from 9am and offering a wide variety of stalls and selection along the length of the High Street.

Cllr Michael Stanton, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“The Victorian Christmas Market and Carols Evening looks set to be another inspired addition to the market town of The National Forest.

“It promises to create a cracking atmosphere, filled with activities to grab your attention and must try food to tantalise your taste buds. 

“Following the Christmas Lights Switch on, Swadlincote is geared up for another magical day and evening for all of the family to enjoy.”

Other entertainment includes carols and festive classics from Unrelated Duo and Sing 4 Pleasure. Children will also have the chance to meet a Victorian Father Christmas in his grotto, play vintage games and make their own festive decorations at craft workshops - all for free.

Local artists and craftspeople include The Driftwood Artisan, selling unique gifts made from natural products, and Metal Manipulation, producers of contemporary lamps and homewares.

As well as the Victorian Christmas themed market, visitors can take advantage of late night shopping in the town centre that evening.

Parking is free in Swadlincote Town Centre. The event is supported by Anvil Hire based at Drakelow.
