xmas2017 xmas2017

Festive opening hours at South Derbyshire District Council’s offices in Swadlincote and details of waste and recycling collections have been announced.

The Civic Offices will close from 4.30pm on Friday, December 22 until 8.45am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

In a case of an emergency the out-of-hours number, 01283 221225, will be operating throughout the holiday period.

There will be no waste collections in South Derbyshire on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Residents originally scheduled to have their black bins emptied on Christmas Day will have them collected on Wednesday, December 27. Boxing Day collections will be moved to Thursday, December 28, while New Year’s Day collections are taking place on Friday, December 29.

Green bins normally emptied on the above dates will not receive their usual collection. However, extra recycling is being taken on the next scheduled collection date, providing it is left neatly at the side of the bin in a clear plastic bag or container. Cardboard must be flattened and stacked.

Brown garden waste bins will not be collected during Christmas week.

Councillor Peter Watson, Chairman of the Environmental and Development Services Committee at the District Council, said:

"We know that residents are keen to support us in our aims of making South Derbyshire cleaner and greener.

“Popular items such as empty bottles, food and packaging should be recycled as much as possible.

“Our website has information on what can and cannot be recycled and where local recycling points are around South Derbyshire. Please take some time to sort through your waste and recycle everything you can.”

Calendars showing collection details for the Christmas and New Year period have been delivered to all households. Residents can also follow the Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for festive waste and recycling tips.

If anyone is unsure of their collection dates they can use the online search tool at www.southderbyshire.gov.uk/recycling.
