More than 43,000 housing electoral registration enquiry forms have been sent to homes across South Derbyshire as the annual canvass gets under way.

The canvass ensures that South Derbyshire District Council produces an up-to-date electoral register, which is published on 1 December 2017.

Enquiry forms are pre-printed and residents are asked to either confirm or amend details and add in the names of anyone at the property who is:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen
  • a citizen of a European member state.

Residents can return the form in the envelope provided, complete the form online or tel: 0800 197 9871 and enter the code provided on the front of your form.

Frank McArdle, Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “If people fail to register they lose the right to vote and have their say in local and national politics.

“We would urge people to use the various methods available to ensure their right to vote at forthcoming elections.”

People are urged to ensure they are registered to vote by returning the household enquiry forms as soon as possible.

Reminder forms will be sent out for anybody who has misplaced or hasn’t received them.
