Don't delay when it comes to postal votes

Those in South Derbyshire who have applied to vote by post in the forthcoming county council elections are being urged to return their ballot papers as soon as possible.

Some 11,500 people in the district have been issued with postal votes this time around and must have returned them by 10pm on polling day – Thursday 4 May 2017 – to allow them to be counted.

Ardip Kaur, monitoring officer for South Derbyshire, said:

“We’ve experienced a particularly high demand for postal votes for this election.

“It’s every eligible voter’s democratic right to have a say in local politics so we would encourage residents in South Derbyshire to ensure they take it.”

Postal votes can also be returned to polling stations in person between 7am and 10pm on polling day. Your poll card tells you where your polling station is.

The South Derbyshire count will take place on Friday 5 May 2017, with all of the results to be published as they come in on Derbyshire County Council’s website.

People can also sign up for result alerts by registering via the county council’s website. Alternatively, they will be able to keep up to date by following @derbyshirecc on Twitter or Derbyshire County Council on Facebook.

On Thursday 11 May 2017, a by-election will take place in the Woodville ward to elect a South Derbyshire District Council representative following the recent death of Councillor Gill Farrington.

More information is available in the elections section. Further details are to be published over the next week.
