Swadlincote Town Crier

Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!

Since medieval times in England, Town Criers were the most important way of spreading news. Royal proclamations, local bylaws, market days, high days and holidays were all pronounced by a bellman or town crier.

Swadlincote’s own Town Crier, Karen Bailey, can do the same for you!

Whether opening an event, after-dinner speaking or pronouncing the new ‘Mr & Mrs’, Karen will bring a touch of glamour and grandeur to your special day.

A former lecturer and long-time dance teacher, Karen’s vivacious personality and knowledge will be a great addition to your event.

Looking to attend as many events as possible, invitations from members of the public, businesses and voluntary organisations are welcomed.

The role was created as part of the Swadlincote Townscape Heritage Scheme and made possible through Heritage Lottery Fund money.
