Maurice Lea Memorial Park

Maurice Lea Memorial Park was presented to the District by a local entrepreneur, Herbert Lea, in remembrance of his son Maurice who was killed in France during the First World War.

It was created in 1930 and was restored in 2005, funded by a Heritage Lottery grant.

Located on Common Road, Church Gresley, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE11 9NW, it is open all day, every day and has:

  • a crown bowling green
  • three tennis courts - play for free here
  • one netball court
  • full size football pitch
  • kickabout area
  • floodlit multi-use games area
  • children’s play area
  • outdoor table tennis
  • changing facilities
  • toilets
  • outdoor gym

Green Flag

Maurice Lea Memorial Park was awarded Green Flag status in July 2017 for the third year running. The flag is a sign to the public that the area boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
