Battle’s Over – Beacon Lighting
Battle’s Over is a nationwide day of commemorative events marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.
South Derbyshire will be participating in this national tribute on the evening of Sunday 11 November on Eureka Park. Details for the event are as follows:
18:55: The Last Post
Kelly Stretton will join with 1000 individual Buglers as they sound this historic tribute at WW1 Beacons of Light locations across the Nation and UK Overseas Territories
19:00: WW1 Beacons of Light
Witness the lighting of our beacon, which will be one of over 1000 Beacons of Light symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.
19:05: A cry for peace around the world
Listen as Swadlincote’s Town Crier raise’s her voice as one of 100 Town Criers throughout the United Kingdom and other countries around the world, in an international cry for peace around the World
19:05: Ringing out for peace
1000 cathedrals and churches will ring out their bells across the nation, and beyond, in celebration of peace – listen out for our local bell ringers.
The harmonies of Gresley Male Voice Choir will accompany the occasion, and members of the Royal British Legion and 1211 (Swadlincote & District) Squadron ATC will be present to mark this national commemoration.
Everyone is welcome to attend, but please remember to wear suitable clothing and footwear and to bring a torch to light your way as the park will be very dark.
* Please note: Emmanuel Church (Church Street, Swadlincote) will be holding their regular evening service at 5.30pm on Sunday, November 11 so that they are able to join in with the Battle’s O’er commemorations.
