Careline at South Derbyshire District Council: Get ready for the digital switchover!
As of January 2027, all traditional analogue phone lines in the UK will be switched off, moving to a fully digital network. This affects everything connected to your landline, including emergency services like lifeline systems, alarms, pendants, and other sensors. In many areas of South Derbyshire, this switchover has already taken place. Your phone provider should contact you about this.
What does this mean for you?
- Your phone provider will contact you to discuss your upgrade options and ensure a smooth transition. Careline is already taking steps to make sure your phone provider knows you are a telecare user but tell your provider in any case.
- If visited by an engineer to switch out your old phone line, let them know they should contact Careline directly before changing out the old line.
- The digital switchover requires an internet connection in your home. Your telephone service provider will provide you with a means of connection if you do not already have one.
- Existing users of the Council's Careline service will receive upgrades to digital equipment if needed.
- Do not worry! This change will not affect mobile phones or internet access.
