New ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box installed at Church Gresley Cemetery

Letters to heaven Letters to heaven

A special white post box has been installed in Church Gresley Cemetery to support those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

The post box has been installed as part of the national ‘Letters to Heaven’ project, which provides a meaningful way for people to remember and honour those who have passed.

The initiative, already successfully implemented in cemeteries across the country, allows bereaved families to write letters to their loved ones and post them in the designated box.

The letters are not opened. They are simply collected and used to create compost for the cemetery grounds, symbolising the ongoing cycle of life and remembrance.

Supporting this project, Art Stone Memorials Ltd has generously donated a memorial stone, adding a poignant touch to the project’s installation. This initiative follows recent improvements to the cemetery’s footpaths, which were part of the District Council's ongoing investment to enhance accessibility and ensure cemeteries remain welcoming and reflective spaces for all visitors.

Cllr Bambrick commented, “This is a great initiative, and I hope it will help people affected by grief. I want to thank Art Stone Memorials and the officers who have worked hard to bring this project to life for the benefit of our residents.”

The ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box is now available to use; in time for those who wish to mark Valentine’s Day with a personal tribute to their loved ones.
