On Monday 24 June, Swadlincote Town Hall will proudly raise the special Armed Forces Union Jack flag, marking the start of Armed Forces Week. This event, held in recognition of the bravery and dedication of the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, will bring together community members, local officials, and special guests.

At 1:15pm staff and guests will gather at the Town Hall. At 1:20pm, the Chairman of Swadlincote Royal British Legion will present the folded flag to the Chair of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Sean Bambrick and offer a few words in commemoration. At 1:30pm, the flag will be ceremoniously raised atop the Town Hall. After the flag raising, guests are invited to make their way inside the Town Hall for refreshments, including tea, coffee, and biscuits.

The Armed Forces Union Flag will remain flying on the Town Hall and the Council Offices until the conclusion of Armed Forces Week on 29 June, symbolising the town's respect and gratitude for the Armed Forces. "We are honoured to fly the Armed Forces Union Flag and to host this event in recognition of the courageous individuals who serve our country," said a Council spokesperson. "This flag raising is a symbol of our community’s deep appreciation for their commitment and sacrifice."

Armed Forces Week is a time to honour and celebrate the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving troops, service families, veterans, and cadets. The week culminates in Armed Forces Day, which takes place on the last Saturday of June.
