Amazing summer line-up

Music in the Park crowd scene Music in the Park crowd scene

A Music and Plants event and a Wacky Wednesday of family fun are among a packed summer programme announced by South Derbyshire District Council.

People of all ages will be able to enjoy events in Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley completely free of charge.

First in the calendar is the ever popular Festival of Leisure. The 2024 event will be on 22 and 23 of June with attractions to entertain and interest people of all ages. The usual mix of fairground rides, family entertainment, live music, chances to have a go at various workshops, an assortment of tasty street food and much more will all be on offer.

All the fun and activities take place across both days from 11.30am to 5pm.

This year’s Music in the Park series dates have been confirmed and include two new exciting additions. The first of these is a Get involved! event on Wednesday, 24 July. This is designed to showcase all that is amazing in South Derbyshire. From groups to join and volunteer opportunities that local people can get involved in, to promotion of local charities and advice from a variety of service-providers, there’s plenty to discover. Live music will also be performed on the Bandstand.

The following weekend, Sunday, 28 July, sees a brand new event for 2024 - Music and Plants.

Those attending this can enjoy an afternoon of live music on the Bandstand whilst celebrating all things plants. Stalls selling indoor and outdoor plants will be there, people will be able to find out about local gardening groups and have the chance to ask experts all-important plant questions.

Families need to take note that Wednesday, 7 August will be Wacky Wednesday! With live music and free children’s entertainment and activities this is the perfect family afternoon out.

The series is brought to an end by Proms in the Park on Sunday, 11 August. This is one not to miss. An afternoon of live music from big brass bands, no doubt including many favourites to sing along or clap to.

Get the dates in your diary and start planning your picnics. Visitors are welcome to take their own chairs, rugs and refreshments. The free of charge events all have hot and cold drinks available, some also offering ice cream and/or hot food.

Anyone interested in having a stall at the events is invited to contact events@southderbyshire.gov.uk
