South Derbyshire residents are reminded that they will require to take photo ID to vote at a polling station in the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Acceptable forms of voter ID are:

  • Passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
  • Driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state (this includes a provisional driving licence)
  • A Blue Badge
  • Older Person’s Bus Pass
  • Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
  • Oyster 60+ Card
  • Freedom Pass
  • Approved proof of age card (PASS card)

The ID does not have to be valid provided that the photograph is still a good likeness of the person owning the card and wanting to vote.

Anyone who does not have any of the forms of ID listed above can apply for a voter authority certificate. This will allow them to vote at a polling station. The deadline to apply is Tuesday 25 April at 5pm.

Ardip Sandhu, South Derbyshire District Council’s returning officer and electoral registration officer said: “This is the first time that voters have been required to bring ID with them to the polling station on election day and it is important that everyone voting in person has the correct ID in order to vote in the local elections.

“Anyone without appropriate ID can apply for a voter authority certificate but they must do this before 5pm on 25 April.”
