South Derbyshire residents can pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who died yesterday, by signing a book of condolence at the Civic Offices, Civic Way, Swadlincote

This book of condolence will be open from 1pm to 4.30pm today (Friday 9 September) and from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday 10 September.

On Sunday 11 September, the Civic Offices will be open from noon to 4.30pm.

At 2.30pm on Sunday 11 September, the Chair will read the proclamation on the accession of King Charles III on the steps of the Town Hall, accompanied by South Derbyshire District Council’s Leader and Chief Executive.

The book of condolence at the Civic Offices will be open from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Monday 12 September to Saturday 17 September and from noon to 4.30pm on Sunday 18 September.

South Derbyshire District Council intends to make further books of condolence available at Etwall Leisure Centre and Melbourne Assembly Rooms. Dates and times will be announced shortly.

People wishing to lay flowers are asked to place them in the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Garden in Swadlincote.

The Union flag will be raised at 11am tomorrow (Saturday 10 September) to mark the proclamation of King Charles III and lowered at 1pm on Sunday 11 September. It will remain at half mast until 8am on the day following the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
