South Derbyshire’s Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday arrangements confirmed

South Derbyshire’s commemoration arrangements have been confirmed for this November.

There will be a short Service of Remembrance on Armistice Day (Thursday 11 November) on the Delph, outside Swadlincote Town Hall and the Remembrance Sunday (Sunday14 November) Service will be a short outdoors service and wreath laying at the Memorial Gates at Eureka Park.

Following consultation with the Royal British Legion, Swadlincote’s Air Training Corps Squadron and the church, the events on Remembrance Sunday have been scaled back with the usual church service and parade not taking place while the risk of COVID-19 transmission remains high.

Councillor Malcolm Gee, South Derbyshire District Council’s Chairman said: “Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday are both opportunities for South Derbyshire to remember those who have died in war.

“We have made the difficult decision to scale back the events planned this year to protect the safety of residents. We would ask anyone planning to attend the events to be mindful of social distancing and also consider taking a lateral flow test before attending.”

Both commemorations will start at 10.45am and on Remembrance Sunday the Royal British Legion Swadlincote and District Branch will present a new standard celebrating its centenary as part of the service.
