Repton bungalows handed over to Council

Repton bungalows Repton bungalows

The Council took handover of the two-bedroom bungalows, built by developer Cameron Homes, on 30 November and showed prospective tenants around almost immediately. The properties were completed on time and on budget.

Due to Covid restrictions the handover was a low-key event, but staff from Cameron Homes, South Derbyshire District Council and Pick Everard, who project managed the final stage of the build, did meet for the final handover.

All of the homes will be let at social rent levels, much lower than the market rent for these homes, meaning they are affordable for people on lower incomes. The homes are fitted with additional fire protection, upgraded smoke and heat detection, enhanced fire doors on the kitchens and integrated misting systems should a fire occur. One bungalow has been adapted to include a level access shower and level access to the front door to suit someone with mobility issues.

In March 2020, there were over 800 people on the Council’s housing waiting list, with over 500 being in some form of housing need. As part of its ongoing efforts to address this situation South Derbyshire District Council exchanged contracts this week to purchase an additional seven new Council homes in the village of Overseal.  These homes are due for completion in April 2021.

Councillor Dan Pegg, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee, said: “A tremendous amount of hard work has gone in to completing these properties in time for four more households, in housing need, to be successfully re-housed by Christmas and I would like to express my thanks to everyone involved. The Council has a firm commitment to increasing the supply of affordable homes, re-housing people living in unacceptable conditions and enabling people who cannot afford to access the housing market to remain within their communities.”
