New awards to recognise District’s heroes
Nominations are being invited for a new set of awards designed to highlight unsung community and sporting heroes from across South Derbyshire.
The South Derbyshire Awards are the result of combining the Active South Derbyshire Awards and the South Derbyshire Community Awards and see South Derbyshire CVS, Active South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire District Council working in partnership.
Nominations can be made in 11 different categories – recognising volunteers, community groups, athletes and businesses – and are open until November 22.
Winners will be invited to an awards evening to be held at Toyota Motor Manufacturing’s Burnaston Hall on Friday, February 7, 2020.
Commenting on the new awards, a spokesperson for South Derbyshire District Council, said:
“The South Derbyshire Awards identify and reward people who help make the community of South Derbyshire thrive. By combining the two former awards, we will have a bigger and better celebration of South Derbyshire’s heroes than ever before.
“Winners will be those who give that little bit extra, who aim to better the community and strengthen relationships between people and places.”
Awards will be presented in the following categories:
- Business of the Year
- Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Local Charity or Voluntary Group
- Love Where You Live or Work
- Sportsman of the Year
- Sportswoman of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Young Sportsperson of the Year
- Young Volunteer of the Year
