Christmas waste collections

recycling recycling

Delivery of new waste and recycling calendars to South Derbyshire homes is now underway, giving residents details of their weekly collections for the next 12 months as well as details of Christmas arrangements.

The handy reference guide provides dates of all collections, including the May Bank Holiday which changes from a Monday to a Friday in 2020.

It also provides a guide to which bin to use for materials such as wrapping paper, greeting cards, glass jars, plastic bottles, food cartons and other household items.

Cllr Andy MacPherson, Chairman of Environmental and Development Services at South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“We want to keep residents fully informed about our services and, of course, to encourage them to recycle as much as possible.

“We have joined the fight to help reduce climate change by recognising and declaring a state of climate emergency. We urge everyone to consider their waste and to segregate it to increase recycling.

“The calendar provides all of the information required to minimise the amount of waste that goes to landfill. Keep it in a safe and handy place so you can easily find it at any time over the coming year.

“43% of waste was recycled last year. By following the information set out in this calendar, residents can help to make South Derbyshire an even greener District.”

Residents are asked to ensure they leave their bins out by 6am on collection days.

South Derbyshire residents can always check their bin collection dates online by entering their postcode on the search facility at www.southderbyshire.gov.uk
