Christmas hamper nominations invited
South Derbyshire’s Christmas Hamper Project is back – promising to be bigger and brighter than ever before.
South Derbyshire District Council has joined forces with Derbyshire County Council’s Children’s Services on the Hamper scheme, and nominations for worthy recipients are now being invited.
If you are aware of an individual or family in the District that would benefit from additional Christmas cheer, you can nominate them using the online form on SDDC’s website.
Scores of families have received one of the hampers in the past, each with a different story and from a different background. The scheme operates with the aim of organisations and individuals working together to deliver festive cheer to those who will struggle to find it elsewhere.
As well as nominations, the organisers are also looking for donations of goodies or vouchers to go in the hampers.
Charity FareShare has committed to donating food items, but donations such as toys, treats, tinned goods and toiletries would be gratefully received from generous residents and businesses across the District willing to play a part.
The deadline for nominations is Thursday November 21. An independent panel whose members include a representative from South Derbyshire CVS and two South Derbyshire District Council tenant volunteers will select the recipients the following day.
Donations of goods for the hampers need to be made by 12pm on Friday, December 13. These can be taken to the Council’s Community Engagement Officers, Laurie Coombs and Sharon Cole, who are based in Housing Services.
Further information is available from Laurie or Sharon on 01283 595803/595727. Alternatively, email tenant.participation@southderbyshire.gov.uk
