New Chairman takes office
Cllr David Muller has taken up the role of Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council for the year ahead.
The Etwall resident was given the prestigious honour at the Civic Council meeting at Swadlincote Town Hall on Thursday, May 23, during which he said: “It is a privilege and honour to represent the people of South Derbyshire”.
Cllr Muller was first elected to South Derbyshire District Council in 2015, being returned for a second four-year term in the local elections this year.
Last year he held the position of Vice-Chairman, supporting Chairman Michael Stanton who stepped down as a Councillor in May.
Cllr Muller and his wife and consort Anne say they look forward to the coming year supporting the varied and interesting events in and around South Derbyshire.
Rainbows Hospice, which cares for life-limited children and young people, is David’s charity, chosen after he learned more about it during a visit to its Open Day last year.
He explained:
"The visit was one of the most uplifting and heart-warming experiences I have ever had, considering the devastation and sadness of end of life care especially for the young.”
Cllr Neil Atkin, who represents the Aston ward, has been named as the Vice-Chairman of the Council for the coming year.
He and Cllr Muller are looking to attend as many events as possible and welcome invites from members of the public, businesses and voluntary organisations.
To do this, or to support fund-raising activities, please telephone the Chairman’s Office on 01283 595895 or email chairsoffice@southderbyshire.gov.uk.
