Burn off those Christmas calories

Christmas calories2 Christmas calories2

Avoid the post-Christmas slump and kick-start the New Year by getting on two wheels and exploring The National Forest.

It’s time to rediscover your sense of adventure and feel at one with nature by taking part in cycling sessions for all ages and abilities.

The woodland haven at Rosliston Forestry Centre offers a scenic setting to put your pedal power to the test.

A Senior Cycling Detox is suitable for ages 50+ and takes place on Friday, January 5 at 10am – 11am to help visitors feel refreshed and energised following the festive blowout. The session costs £3 with cycle hire or £1.50 for those bringing their own bikes.

Youngsters aged eight and over can ‘Learn to Ride’ on Saturday, January 13 and Tuesday, February 20. This class is ideal for those who want to build up their confidence and skills off road. Booking is essential along with a deposit of £20, which is refundable on attendance. This session will take place between 10am – 2pm.

Maurice Lea Memorial Park, in Church Gresley, will also host a Back to Cycling session for adults on Saturday, January 20. Attendees can pick up techniques such as how to cope with traffic, road positioning, signalling and cycle safety. Booking is essential along with a deposit of £20, which again is refundable. This session will take place between 10am – 2pm.

Cllr Jim Hewlett, Chairman of Housing and Community Services at South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“South Derbyshire and The National Forest provide an ideal environment for cycling. These sessions are perfect for meeting new people, building confidence and developing your skills with the help of our friendly experts.”
