Council scoops prestigious RoSPA gold medal

The work done by South Derbyshire District Council to protect its residents, businesses and visitors has been recognised through an internationally renowned award.

It is the eighth successive year that the authority has earned a prestigious accolade from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).               

The RoSPA awards scheme, which receives entries from around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.                              

Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“Winning eight consecutive gold medal awards is fantastic achievement.

“Delivering high levels of health and safety in everything we do, for residents, business and visitors, is extremely important. Achieving the top level again demonstrates our ongoing commitment to making South Derbyshire a cleaner, greener and safer place to be.

“It reflects the hard work done to to further improve our practices, services and processes.”                                                                     

The District Council has been awarded a gold medal, which is only given to organisations sustaining the highest standards over consecutive years.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said:

“The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.”
