Chairman’s Charity Concert set to raise the roof
Music-lovers are invited to join one of South Derbyshire’s best-known choirs in an uplifting ‘Evening of Song’.
Gresley Male Voice Choir is set to raise the roof of St George’s Church, in Church Lane, Ticknall, from 7.15pm on Saturday, April 21.
Musical delights such as Unchained Melody, a WW1 Medley, The Long and Winding Road and You Raise Me Up will be performed on the night.
The concert is being hosted by Councillor Michael Stanton, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, to raise funds for both the church and for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. Donations will go towards supporting the teams who fly two regional air ambulances, providing rapid response to medical emergencies.
St George’s Church is a Grade II listed building and is the perfect setting for what promises to be a memorable acoustic evening.
Cllr Stanton said:
“We’re in store for an evening of wonderful entertainment, all for a good cause.
“The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance have flown more than 30,000 missions so far, which has helped to save many thousands of lives. We hope that the money raised will help them to continue their excellent work.
“In the spirit of Gresley Male Voice Choir’s mission statement, the night promises to share the joy of singing with each other and our audiences in the spirit of fellowship, charity and artistic growth.”
The choir covers classical, operetta, grand opera, music from the shows, popular music, part songs and religious music.
Tickets for the concert cost £9 and are available from Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre on 01283 222848, on the door or from Gresley Male Voice Choir on 07399 417995.
