Free flood protection barriers
Households and businesses at potential risk of flooding are being given an opportunity to further protect their properties.
South Derbyshire District Council has 70 flood protection barriers, worth £225 each, to give away for free.
There are two types of Floodshields, as they are known, to fit UPVC or wooden door frames.
The barrier simply clips to the flat outside surface of UPVC door frames and onto the step for wooden door frames.
Residents using the barriers believe they offer reassurance and peace of mind.
Anne Heathcote, Chairman of Barrow upon Trent Parish Council, said:
“The barriers give us peace of mind that the cottages at the centre of the village, which are vulnerable to flooding, have a simple and practical way of preventing the water from coming into their homes on the rare occasions that flooding occurs.”
Cllr Peter Watson, Chairman of Environmental and Development Services at the District Council, said:
“The impact of flooding can be extremely distressing to those who are affected.
“Preventative measures such as these barriers can protect property and possessions and offer peace of mind.
“We would encourage anyone who thinks they may benefit to make the most of this fantastic free offer.”
The barriers will be given away on a first come, first served basis. There are limits to stock sizes available.
